The Maze III procedure has a success rate of 98%. To simplify the surgical approach, a variety of procedures were developed to produce similar cut and sew effect. One of the most popular is radiofrequency, followed by microwave and cryoablation. Common procedure consists of isolation of the pulmonary veins and excision of the left atrial appendage.
