Surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation with variable energy sources has been accepted as a successful method with favorable mid and long term results. Concomittant ablation surgery with the other cardiac pathologies has become a standard procedure. Minimally invasive or endoscopic ablation is an alternative to percutaneous techniques due to its low complications rates with successful results. However type of energy sources, ablation lines and patient-specific surgical strategies remain to be important debating issues.
